tempo in the golf swing
56tempo
All great players have the ability to swing every club at a consistent
tempo and with great balance. Rhythm and balance are linked. Some
players, such as Nick Price, have faster tempos. Some, like Ernie Els,
have a much a slower tempo. but both have balance and a consistent tempo.
The key to consistency is to maintain your balance and use a smooth rhythm all through the golf swing.
Even Tiger Woods and the longest hitters on tour all have a consistent and same tempo in thier golf swings. From the beggining of the swing to the end, tempo is key.
How many times have you seen a guy swing a hundred miles per hour and the ball does not travel further than the red tees. Well pratice with your tempo. Honestly it does not matter how fast you swing, as long as you are in control. The key to consistency is control and control comes from tempo.
Training aids such as the medicus, and swinging 2 clubs at the same time will help with tempo isusses. Another tip would be to count to one on the way back on the backswing and two on the downswing. Its also a key to complete a backswing. Most tempo issues happen at the start of the swing and and on the start of the downswing. So a smooth takeaway and a smooth transition are both very important.
